Australian-Swedish Pattern Designer & Illustrator
I’m Penny, an Australian-Swedish surface pattern designer and illustrator specialising in playful, colourful design for children’s, home and lifestyle products. I create patterns and illustrations from initial hand-drawn ideas through to polished, production-ready artwork.
I hold a BA in Textile Design from RMIT University in Melbourne and have worked across Australia, the UK and Sweden, with more than a decade of experience designing children’s and babywear for the Swedish fashion brand Lindex. I’ve also designed for Swedish brands including Borås Tapeter and Hemtex, giving me a strong understanding of how creative ideas translate into commercial products, from trend and colour research through to final artwork and production.
Since becoming freelance, I’ve worked across surface pattern, illustration and graphic design, creating artwork for fashion, textiles, homewares, stationery and other products. My work combines a Scandinavian sensibility with a playful and illustrative approach, often drawing inspiration from nature, everyday life and the charm of the unexpected.
I love creating patterns that feel joyful and distinctive while still having a strong commercial purpose. Whether developing a collection from scratch or responding to a brief, I enjoy finding the balance between colour, composition and storytelling to create designs that work beautifully on the finished product.
